The 2008/2009 Stimulus Package: Its Impact on Engineering
Written by John Gleiter
In quick response to the title, and in a word, the impact is tremendous.
Stimulus… Engineering… Economy...
SEE…Nothing in this world gets built, manufactured or organized into a process designed for public service that does not involve engineering.
SEE…Engineering is the knowledge conversion of science and mathematics into products that are useful to mankind.
Every brand of engineering will benefit from the Stimulus Plan, particularly civil, mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.
SEE… Engineering creates jobs related to the Stimulus effort.
As an example, consider solar panels as they convert sunlight into electricity. Do the current solar panels work well? No. The solar panels provide low voltage and current, both of which need to be converted to a level which you find in your household outlet when you plug-in an electric hair-dryer. We need ‘engineering’ to develop solar panels that put out more energy, last longer in their environment and cost much, much less. A technical challenge the engineers will meet that will help the environment in the process.
Demand for engineering and technology services will increase significantly over the next five years due to the Stimulus money. Salaries will rise and career opportunities will abound with engineers making a ‘difference.’ The Stimulus package may also provide some research and development funds for projects that private capital might tend to avoid.
Now is the time to make your own Stimulus plan by making your personal commitment to invest in yourself by obtaining an engineering degree.
Engineers and technologists make a DIFFERENCE! This career path offers a well-paid and fulfilling life, preparing you for any intellectual or economic adventure that life has in store for you.
So get stimulated, stay realistic, and you can do it! You will SEE!
Stimulus… Engineering… Economy
